Recommended by Elle: Pilates Dvds...

As we welcome in Fall and approaching holidays, I wanted to give you some recommendations for exercise tapes that I enjoy and that you can do at home. Of course, follow up with periodic "check-ups" with a qualified instructor near you. I recommend at least 3 private sessions (about $50-70) with a qualified instructor before venturing out on your own with a video and subsequently at least once a month taking a live group class ($15-20) with a qualified instructor. (Always verify the certification that the instructor has!! It's not enough to just be a "trained" instructor!) Good certifications include those that are up to date and not "traditional pilates" that takes less consideration for the anatomy that we currently know about our uniquely different bodies.
Examples of good options are: Stott, Windsor, Balanced body, and Physical Mind.
***Of course, always check with your doctor first before starting any exercise regimen, especially if you have shoulder, hip, heart, bone, respiratory, or back related problems and let you instructor know as well. Begin with the basic matwork or yoga tapes slowly and increase your intensity as you become more familiar adding in equipment as necessary. It is recommended that you progress to a full hour workout 2-4 times per week and at least 30 minutes brisk walking or aerobic activities 4-6 times per week.

StottPilates Intermediate Matwork: This gives you options to increase the difficulty of your workout slowly and safely.

My video! STRETCH & TONE with Joyelle. A great way to maintain flexibility and get a gentle workout that tones the whole body. Buy it NOW.

StottPilates Essential/Intermediate Bosu: A challenging aerobic workout (requires purchase of Bosu)- tones abs effectively.

StottPilates Foam Roller Challenge: A great choice if you're looking for a challenge to the regular matwork

Giaim Corporation/Rodney Yee's Yoga Burn: A great workout that's centering without the yoga philosophy.

If you need a yoga mat consider getting Yoga paws for extra grip or go to TJ MAxx, Target or Marshall's these stores have an inexpensive selection of pilates and yoga mats as well as other equipment and videos. Go to www.stottpilates.com for more info on Stott videos. Go to www.giaim.com for more info on Giaim products as well. Or check out amazon.com for the same videos used and like new!

Happy exercising!
